Chlorhexidine

The structure of chlorhexidine, a bisbiguanide molecule, consists of a hexamethylene bridge connecting two (p-chlorophenyl) guanide units. It functions as both an antibacterial and an antiinfective agent. It belongs to the biguanide and monochlorobenzene groups. It shares functional similarities with biguanides.

Chlorhexidine functions as a disinfectant and antiseptic. It lessens the quantity of microorganisms (germs) on your skin and in your mouth.

It can support: sore throats, oral infections, mouth ulcers, gum disease, denture care, and skin infections.

Typically, chlorhexidine is used in mixtures with other substances. A local anesthetic is used in several sore throat remedies to assist numb pain. Treatments for the mouth and throat are available as sprays, gels, lozenges, and mouthwashes. Lotions, ointments, and creams are forms of skin care products.
